Here's a few things I wanted to be when I grew up, at various points-
-Author
-Environmental Lawyer
-Filmmaker
-Deli Owner
-Visual Artist
-City Planner
-High School English Teacher
-Ornithologist
-Long-Haul Truck Driver
You'll notice that nowhere on that list is 'musician'. I never considered doing music full-time until the last few years, when it seemed like a real possibility through playing in bands and playing shows/recording. I've been playing guitar since seven years old but it just never occurred to me until my twenties, nor did experimental ambient music call out to me as my chosen musical field of composition until recently. Now that I'm there, though, I'm as happy with my choice as could be. What really cemented it was the realization that I'd rather make 10K a year playing music than 100K a year in some fucking anonymous office. And though past friends, girlfriends, and other acquaintances have tried to talk me out of it, it's only strengthened my resolve. Now that I have a supportive wife and family behind me, it's paying off. The only heights I aim to achieve are to be able to land a deal with a small label and to be able to keep touring and make a small living, and have a small cult following behind my albums. That's really all I want. I hope to achieve such a goal in the next couple of years through the tireless hard work I pour into my musical career.
But up until maybe 16, truck driver was at the top of the list, and what I honestly expected to end up doing. I thought it would be such a perfect job, a way to see the country and belong to a tight-knit community/subculture. Now, I get exhausted after driving for an hour, but in a way I guess I found a way to somewhat achieve my goals of traveling around the country via music. I've met some amazing people and seen some beautiful new places, so it's all good by me.
Your photography is beautiful, dear. It's perfect-tech for me. :)
